Acid-base imbalance is a disorder that result from disease in organs like the kidney, lungs, and brain. Acid-base imbalances are pathologic variations in the partial pressure of arterial carbon dioxide (PaCO2) or serum bicarbonate (HCO3–) that result in aberrant arterial pH values. The pH value of 7 indicates neutral. A pH value of less than 7 denotes acidity. In contrast, a pH value of greater than 7 indicates a base.
